Safety and Security

Onyx engineers and designers have established themselves as a highly competent safety and security system team. As clients’ facilities continue to age, the need for upgraded safety systems has become apparent. In light of heightened security awareness and new federal mandates, clients have had to overhaul perimeter security. Onyx has helped clients define requirements, meet code and regulations, and install much improved safety and security systems.

Firewater upgrade projects: On an area-by-area basis, Onyx has helped clients upgrade their firewater systems to be NFPA compliant. Onyx has upgraded process units, offsites and terminals with firewater systems to meet current regulations. Project scopes have included process options and design, front-end engineering, and detailed design of firewater supply, storage and distribution.
Security system projects: Due to the onset of the 2002 Marine Transportation Safety Administration legislation mandating certain levels of security upon waterborne process facilities, Onyx engineers and designers have been called upon to help improve security for several clients’ facilities. These projects include options assessment, system definition and detailed design for location-by-location security and monitoring. Project scope includes power, data/communication, cameras/card readers, computer hardware, fencing, and civil/structural to support installation.
