Process
Since our establishment in 1992, Onyx performed projects in the process industries, with a large portion of the work occurring within the boundary limits of the client’s process units. Onyx engineers and designers are familiar with the safety requirements for process unit entry and are very comfortable working within operating facilities. Onyx has performed lab research and directed pilot plant studies leading to process plant options assessment, process engineering and detailed design.
- Lube oil reprocessing projects: Onyx has performed proprietary technology projects including lab research and pilot plant studies. The outcomes of these studies resulted in process options assessment, process design, front-end engineering and detailed design. Onyx has provided over 120,000 man-hours of lube oil processing work, including on-site commissioning/startup support, plant engineering, and operational management of three different international assets.
- Ammonia to hydrogen plant conversion project: Onyx performed detailed design to convert a moth-balled ammonia unit into a hydrogen producing unit. This 20,000 man-hour project was completed over a four-month period. Onyx provided deliverables from all disciplines, including DCS configuration and FAT/SAT support.
- HOC flue gas cooler replacement: This turnaround project scope included replacing a flue gas cooler, making structural modifications and adding boiler feed water pumps. Onyx engineers specified a prefabricated refractory that saved two weeks in schedule and removed the flue gas cooler replacement from the tunrnaround schedule’s critical path.
- Sulfur plant relocation project: Onyx provided detailed design to relocate and install a sulfur processing plant and integrate it into a client’s facility. This 60,000 man-hour project included an amine unit, a tailgas unit, and a Scot unit. According to client and contractor testimony, the Onyx design was installed with exceptional quality and minimal rework. Onyx deliverables included extensive equipment re-design to incorporate the used equipment into the new process.
